We lifing in the own little hollywood3/23/2023 A neon sign ‘DANCE’ is still lit above the toilets, but no one is dancing. A glitter ball looks out of place, almost embarrassed, like nobody told it to dress down today. Ask me what I do!” RABBIT doesn’t know what he does.įake ivy hangs from the walls, and plastic palm trees in pots lean from either side of the dance floor. He has a name badge on that reads “Hello my name is RABBIT. He is dressed smart-casual, but his hair is messy. RABBIT sits among them, also staring at the presentation. The would-be dance floor is lined with tables and chairs holding grey, professional types, their faces lit by the PowerPoint presentation. And Rascals Bar is playing host to a team-building day for a local business. If it were 4:00 AM, dancing students would be stumbling out the exit. MIRIAM will write to JAKE in an open letter on her blog. JAKE thinks about the never changing weather. She imagines he tastes the way her avocado hand soap smells. Enter JAKE – he sits in the bed beside MIRIAM. It’s the year 2050AD, and sex is contactless. After two months, he places them in the top draw. After a month, he turns them to face the wall. Every time he looks at them, he remembers his failure with TOD. WILLIAM goes home and puts the porcelain cats on the table by his single bed. They are both blue and white, but they are not a set. He places them on the counter. He picks up two porcelain cats from the shelf of knickknacks. He suddenly can’t think of anything happening in the news, or anything that happened ever. WILLIAM considers striking up another conversation, but can’t think of what might make a good topic. TOD would make a good friend for WILLIAM. WILLIAM crumples away from the counter and pretends to browse a nearby shelf of knick-knacks. He subtly practises the smile he should have done. To make friends with someone like TOD. WILLIAM wants to laugh, or at least smile back, but. TOD takes the bag and examines the contents. WILLIAM places a plastic bag on the counter. He recently cleared out his teenage bedroom, but only felt emotionally ready to part with his copy of The Communist Manifesto and his ‘Honey to the B’ by Billie Piper CD. He approaches the counter where TOD is arranging novelty keyrings in a display. And we're all grateful for that. The following excerpts are from Little Hollywood , Jinwoo’s new book, available for pre-order now from 11:11 Press. In the middle of the song, she tells all of us who love her-"I Tried to leave it but I never could!" Madonna never will. Finally, Hollywood-Los Angeles is a part of Madonna-her life and music and when she plays Staples Center, the place and her audience are gonna go crazy and explode. Madonna is a celebrity in the very best sense of the terms and the world would be a dull and uncool place without her presence. After all, it's one of her homes because Madonna is always welcome at parties come Golden Globe and Oscar time every time. Madonna Cries in Sad and Wet Tears in perhaps her most Madonna-esque hook/refrain/chorus-"Everybody comes to Hollywood/They wanna make it in the neighborhood/They like the smell of it in Hollywood/How could it hurt you when it looks so good?" Yet in the end, Madonna will never leave the Hollywood section of the California sunshine-with its glamour, calm breezes of the palm trees, a formerly hard-luck hockey team who have won the Stanley Cup (Go Kings!) and the Pacific Ocean beaches. In angry rocker Hollywood, Madonna is dying inside as she starts to cry Wet Tears in her sad babydoll voice-but the way Madonna does it is naive, childlike and endearing. She needs to escape the American Nightmare-to paraphrase Bob Dylan-for she who isn't born is busy dying. As a sad bird begins to fly leaving the trappings of fame behind-Madonna herself-she plays her Gibson Hummingbird guitar and begins to cry like a Ciccone baby-All Still Wet, Sad and in Tears-in this song, place and idea/dream/nightmare named Hollywood-Madonna Lives to Tell, Promises to Try and Takes a Bow but barely hanging on-doing it wrong. General CommentMost of the time, Madonna's songs are lighthearted and happy but some of them are really thoughtful, profound and downright sad-the acoustic rocker Hollywood belongs in the latter group. I'm bored with the concept of right and wrong Music stations always play the same songs You got the top down and it feels so good The sun is shining like you knew it would There's something in the air in Hollywood How could it hurt you when it looks so good?
